They lay concealed within the street image. Beautiful, elegant buildings gracing the urban landscape, the eldest one stemming from 1948. Yet, what happened behind closed doors was only known to a few. Despite their forgottenness, these rest homes are an important chapter of women’s history, a perfect illustration of how the patriarchy extended its tentacles into the realm of mental health.
