Truly listening,
to every voice that wants to be heard
Thank you for visiting my page! I am Pleun van den Berg, a 20-year-old storyteller with a deep passion for uncovering and sharing the narratives that shape our world. I am currently completing my bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges, with a major in World Politics and a minor in Journalism, the latter being the field I want to master in.
My love for writing and storytelling has been with me since my earliest memories. As a child, I created my own pretend library with books made out of bad drawings and folded paper, a proud indecipherable autograph adorning the last page. Since then, I’ve traded my folded paper for laptops and started building my portfolio to bring me closer to achieving my journalism dreams. This website is the result of that journey. My aim with this page is to tell the untold in a nuanced and creative manner. In contrast to the fast-paced media we are used to, I want to create stories that aren’t driven by the demands of productivity. I want to truly listen, and turn every page with care before giving voice to someone else’s story. Because the stories on this page are not mine, especially the ones concerning Dutch rest homes. These stories belong to someone’s life- their relationships, their guilt, their passions. In my work, I try to tell their story in a way that is closest to their reality without neglecting other affected perspectives. That job is a tricky one, but oh so worth doing.
