Thank you for visiting my page! I am Pleun van den Berg, a 23-year-old journalist with a deep passion for uncovering and sharing the narratives that shape our world.
My love for writing and storytelling has been with me since my earliest memories. As a child, I created my own pretend library with books made out of bad drawings and folded paper, a proud indecipherable autograph adorning the last page. Since then, I’ve traded my folded paper for laptops and started building my portfolio. This website is the result of that journey. My aim with this page is to tell the untold in a nuanced and creative manner. In contrast to the fast-paced media we are used to, I want to create stories that aren’t driven by the demands of productivity. I want to truly listen, and turn every page with care before giving voice to someone else’s story. Because the stories on this page are not mine. These stories belong to someone’s life- their relationships, their struggles, their passions. In my work, I try to tell their story in a way that is closest to their reality without neglecting other affected perspectives. That job is a tricky one, but oh so worth doing.
My experience so far has taken me from producing podcasts to editing stories for accessible newspapers to working for NRC. As editor-in-chief at Uitgeverij Eenvoudig Communiceren, I learned how to make complex subjects accessible to a broad audience. At Tonny Media, I developed podcast concepts and produced eight episodes of College Tour de Podcast with Twan Huys. I am currently an intern at NRC’s Media & Culture desk, where I work on interviews, features, reporting, investigations, and reviews. Alongside these experiences, I completed my Master’s in Journalism and New Media at Leiden University. Each has shaped the way I approach journalism: with curiosity, attention to detail and a willingness to look beyond the obvious.
